The Sergio Lombroso Postdoctoral Fellowship Fund was established in memory of the late
lawyer Sergio Lombroso of Verona, Italy. His generosity enables the WIS to support
postdoctoral fellows whose focus is on cancer research.
Funding and Duration
The Lombroso Fellowship is equal to the regular WIS fellowship, and winners receive it
instead of the latter. Lombroso Fellowships are awarded for one year, with the possibility of
an extension for a second year.

Requirements
Lombroso Fellowships are awarded to qualified candidates who comply with the following:
• Italian citizenship.
• Have a Ph.D. or MD degree from an accredited institution of higher learning or
confirmation from such an institution of fulfilling the requirements of a doctorate,
including submission of a thesis.
• Intend to pursue cancer research.
• Found a WIS Head of Research Group who is willing to host them for their
postdoctoral training.
• Candidates already eligible for a Ph.D. degree must have obtained their degree no
more than 4 years prior to the date of application for this fellowship.
Documents needed
• An updated CV and list of publications.
• Certificate of Ph.D. approval or thesis submission.
• A research plan (up to 2 pages).
• Two letters of recommendation (one of which must be from the Ph.D. advisor).
• A letter of commitment by the potential WIS host.
